Introduction | President Chiang Kai-shek passed away on April 5, 1975, and the Executive Yuan, following suggestions from Taiwan and abroad as well as the Great Funeral Conference, decided to construct Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, representing the remembrance of the people of the country for their leader and his legacy of sincerity. A planning group was formed and the project began.
In October 1976, the planning and guidance committee was established, directing the project to completion. Following numerous thorough discussions, the present location was selected. The groundbreaking ceremony and start of construction took place on October 31, 1976, the project was completed on March 31, 1980, and the official opening took place on April 5. In 1980, to fulfill their duty, the planning group formed a group to carry out the task of management and preparation.
On July 1st, the office was handed over to the Taipei City Government and officially named Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Management Office. On July 1, 1986, it was turned over to the MOE and renamed National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Management Office. On May 20, 2012, following departmental reorganization, it was turned over to the Ministry of Culture.
To meet the demands of social development and public needs, the core mission of the office is to: collect, archive, and display President Chiang's relics and information, study his philosophy, maintain the historical site, establish a creative culture brand, organize life aesthetic courses and lifelong learning culture and education activities, provide an ideal outdoor education destination for schools, create a world-class recreational and superior touring environment, and improve in the 6 areas of internationalization, diversification, informatization, communitization, enterprization, and refinement, in order to establish a highly effective and high-quality social education organization. |
