After spending a day around the island, travelers can come back and barbecue, sip tea, or chat with friends under a starry night. Enjoy the serenity and a break from the stress and bustle of the city. As an environmentally-friendly B&B, Lou Zi Xia Traditional-Style Taiwanese Bed & Breakfast complies with the Kinmen Low-Carbon Program by not automatically providing disposable toiletries or changing bedding and towels for guests staying more than one night. Qiong Lin Community is located in the center of the island, and is one of its representative communities. The original name for this area, “Pinglin,” came from the forests that used to grow nearby. It has been frequented by famous people since the Ming dynasty, when one of the emperors bestowed an honorary inscribed board from which the current name, “Qiong Lin,” is derived. A number of traditional-style Taiwanese buildings, simple and elegant, with natural charm, have been preserved here. The largest of these is the ancestral temple. During times of war, tunnels were dug around the island and it had a heavy military atmosphere; now it is open to the public. Qiong Lin was home to a number of successful scholars during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and therefore a number of ornate official residences can still be viewed here. The ancestral temples are full of inscribed boards celebrating the scholars’ achievements, and in addition to the main Cai Family Temple, several more representing the branches of the family can be found in Qiong Lin. One building houses two of these temples. Each of the temples provides interesting sights, and along with Yi Gu Tang and two of Feng Shi Ye (Wind Lion Gods) have been designated second-grade historical sites.
