Mandarin Name大漁日和
DescriptionYilan|TaioriPlentiful Harvest! The Gourmand’s Ideal Japanese FeastPassing through the Snow Mountain Tunnel and exiting the highway interchange, you turn down a small road into a rural atmosphere rich with the scent of rice paddies. To say that the enchanting county of Yilan is akin to Taipei’s backyard garden simply doesn’t do it justice. This place could more rightly be described as every traveler’s ideal paradise. In the same way, Taiori is every Japanese cuisine-loving gourmand’s Shangri-la.Experience the exquisite character of a Japanese-style homeAs with every other bed and breakfast in Yilan county, Taiori is tucked away beside farmers’ fields, and exudes a generous and friendly ambiance. Even though this is so, it’s difficult to miss the sight of it, with its light gray slate wall and wooden door. To one side of the door sit several bicycles and potted plants. Compared to the other cement buildings in the area, Taiori radiates a different kind of warmth.Opening the doors and stepping forward, you immediately smell the rich aroma of solid wood. Above a long wooden table, a Japanese-style water kettle hangs peacefully from a hook over a charcoal burner. A colorful Japanese-style flag bearing the name of the bed and breakfast hangs on the wall in the entrance. Symbolic in Japan of a plentiful fishing harvest, the colorful red fish leaping into the sunshine between Mount Fuji and a magnificent sea wave seem to represent the feelings of satisfaction and abundance that Taiori hopes to give to every guest. Your hostess, Shan, approaches and greets you in her delicate voice. Her genuine smile gives every traveler the feeling that they have arrived at a traditional Japanese household, and are about to experience the meticulous attention to detail characteristic of the Japanese. “Our original motivation was to allow people to travel to Yilan for a vacation, to eat local fish, and discover the deliciousness of Taiwanese fish!” With his wife Shan’s support, Wesley exacting tastes realized that no other bed and breakfast had yet combined the local seafood of Yilan with the hot springs for which Jiaoxi is famous into a single space. So they took the initiative and constructed just such a landmark restaurant guesthouse which is now in high demand.Experience the warmth of slow livingWhen you arrive at Taiori with its solid wood construction and head upstairs to the second floor, the symmetrical rooms left and right both consist of comfortable two-level spaces. The bedrooms contain soft beds and a full wall of windows overlooking the vast fields beyond. After soaking in the hot spring bathtub, you don a supple bathrobe and sit in the Japanese-style space sipping hot tea and playing Chinese chess. Turning your head, you admire the bright green rice paddies outside the windows. During migratory bird season, black-winged stilts with their long, slender legs can be seen wading slowly through the fields. The upper level of each room consists of your very own private hot spring spa which, however small, is brimming with character. The spacious hot spring bathtub is large enough for three or four friends to enjoy without feeling crowded. Bathing in the gentle hot spring water of Jiaoxi, while sipping a glass of ice-cold sake wine and marveling at the meticulously manicured Japanese garden outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, you feel elated and content.Collect for safe keeping all the delicious memoriesFor the gourmand traveler, the most fascinating element of Taiori B&B is obviously the sumptuous evening meal. When he was a boy, Wesley fell in love with eating and enjoyed helping his mother in the kitchen. Stationed in Shitiping, he often joined the fishermen at sea, experiencing firsthand how to eat freshly caught fish raw and straight from the sea. Seizing the opportunity to open a restaurant beside the Shitiping Harbor, he learned the ropes for cooking seafood while consulting his indigenous chef friends. To this day, Wesley still makes daily trips to the harbor to select the freshest fish, always striving to prepare a unique seasonal menu just for you.Appetizers consist of Yilan’s famous smoked duck and handpicked seaweed. Japanese Jack mackerel, Oriental tuna, and sweet prawns caught fresh that evening are prepared into sashimi, allowing you to savor their most authentic flavor. Precious harlequin shrimp and red big-eyed fish are served lightly salted and broiled to perfection to preserve the delicate freshness of the meat. The seasonal main dish is fried on a pottery skillet: anglerfish liver, testes, and maw served with a rich variety of vegetables and mushrooms, paired with a clear soup and light brown Japanese soy sauce. The sweetness of the veggies perfectly complements the savory fish in mildly salty sauce to produce an indescribable array of flavors. The meal is followed at last by a bowl of miso soup and a kumquat slushie. Using the authentic flavors of the best unadorned ingredients, tonight’s meal leaves you with an unforgettable dining experience. In operation for nearly nine years, Wesley and Shan have not lost their passion for life. Through the hot springs of Jiaoxi and their deliciously sincere intention, they take care of the heart of every traveler. Between blue sky and green fields, they have created a happy safe harbor, providing you with relaxation and peace of mind.

NameMei Shiou B&B
Mandarin Name米修B&B
DescriptionYilan|Meishiou B&B A Fairytale-Like Carpenter’s HouseWhite clouds drift through the clear, blue Yilan skies as you sing a song and stroll along the country lanes. Suddenly, you hear the energetic barking of a little dog. A little black and white Chihuahua stares at you with its sparkling big eyes. Behind it, a three-level building painted in off-white and brown comes into view. Welcome to Meishiou B&B!Countryside memoirs of a happy encounter with woodPushing open the low, wooden gate, you enter a garden filled with lush and vibrant flowers and plants. Red dragonflies accompany you down the crushed stone pathway right up to the front door. On the veranda, you find a sturdy wooden shoe cabinet above which a blackboard has been colorfully decorated with the words “Meishiou B&B: lodging, woodworking, playful life.” You open the door to a room full of richly colored wooden furniture, giving the interior the feeling of a small forest. Lifting your head, you see a beautiful scene of blue sky and green trees out the window, and you feel as if you’ve entered the home of a fairytale elf! This fairytale-like home and all the beautiful furniture within is a product of the hard work of your hosts. The doghouse in the entrance is your hostess Meishiou’s first woodworking project, to create a warm little corner for her beloved dog, Bogi. She has since transformed herself into a stylish female carpenter! She dragged Piety, who loves DIY projects, into her plan, to become her number-one helper. Piety’s passion for carpentry, however, originates from his inherent desire to get his hands on everything around him. He once even helped SGS to do inspection work! Eventually, they built a tiny woodworking shop behind their house, helping to establish their dream home. A cozy, warm woodworking shop, a miniature tri-color fairytaleGoing up stairs, you see Meishiou’s creativity in the natural tri-color decor: red, blue, and green. Each room seems to embody its own miniature fairytale. The first page of the tale tells the story of a sunflower growing up in a safflower garden. With multi-colored pillows and tender-colored walls, the “Red Warmth Room” is a little paradise just for you and your furry friend, set up to give you the most delightful experience before settling in for bed.The second page of the tale tells of an elf’s fantasy adventure in the green forest. The “Green Forest Room” is the only four-person room at Meishiou B&B, serving as the perfect secret base for you and your friends to share a vacation together. A red dinosaur dangling from a floating balloon drifts up near the ceiling, the clock on his belly tick-tocking away as if to suggest that this is the moment for a joyous adventure to begin! On the third floor, you open the third page of the tale, where a mermaid princess shares her story about the world beneath the sea. The “Blue Waters Room” has an elevated wooden floor with a row of tall blue waves for bed headboards. This room has the only bathtub, and it’s pink, like a romantic blessing from the mermaid princess.A fairytale home converging with real lifeIn the morning, you walk out onto the balcony, take a deep breath of that fresh, clean Yilan air, and catch a whiff of a delicious breakfast cooking! Soy milk, a fresh fruit and vegetable salad, mashed potato balls, soft-boiled eggs, and perfectly toasted bread combine for a simple yet perfectly energizing breakfast. If you’re intrigued by Meishiou and Piety’s woodworking life, you can book a seat in Friday’s woodworking course for a chance to hammer around with Meishiou in the workshop! Different than your standard carpentry course, Meishiou enjoys using love to create woodcrafts with her guests. Piety humorously refers to their workshop as their “delivery room” where you can experience with your own hands the satisfaction of creating things from wood. The warm feeling inside the house is just like the interaction between Meishiou and Piety – comfortable and cozy. When they met each other, one had just completed a job, while the other had fallen in love with hiking as a way of coping with a break up. They began hiking, fishing, and bicycle-riding together - they’ve even conquered half of the hundred highest peaks in Taiwan. Having an unspoken understanding of one another, they began to construct their guesthouse together. They’ve been through a lot in their countryside life; even though Piety recently fell seriously ill, the illness was unable to defeat them as they faced it with unyielding optimism. This fairytale-like home is not simply a physical building. Even more so, Meishiou B&B is a product of the charisma of its hosts.

Mandarin Name: 米修B&B
Description: Yilan|Meishiou B&B A Fairytale-Like Carpenter’s HouseWhite clouds drift through the clear, blue Yilan skies as you sing a song and stroll along the country lanes.

Mandarin Name花園紅了民宿
DescriptionPingtung|Red Garden ResortA blooming secret garden in the south of TaiwanYou pass through Kenting’s bustling main street and head toward Sail Rock. The number of pedestrians gradually decreases until, finally, your only company is the sunny skyline along the coastal highway. You make a sudden turn up a sloping gravel lane and continue unhurriedly along until your eyes light up at the sight before you: behold Red Garden Resort. An exquisite garden abloom with vibrant lifeRed Garden Resort is hidden down a little alley in Sail Rock. Open the gate and you are greeted by a little garden facing out over the sea which, as the name implies, is full of colorful red flowers. Though small in size, the terrace is delicate and orderly, arranged into multiple impressive layers so that the style of the garden changes depending on where you stand. Small stone carvings imported from Bali hide between blossoming shrubs; here a tranquil Buddha, there a calm little crocodile. It’s as if they are keeping company with the flowers or playing with the travelers. No matter day or night, this enchanting venue allows you to linger a long, long time.In keeping with the design of the gardens, the dwelling of Red Garden Resort is equally bright and romantic. Walls are accentuated with passionate orange and bright yellow paint, and are covered with winding, dark green vines. Looking up at the windows of the top floor left slightly ajar, you might imagine this to be the Taiwanese abode of Rapunzel, unravelling her long, silk-like hair out those windows day and night, awaiting the arrival of her prince charming. An exquisite and enchanting Southeast Asian fairy taleAn ingenious mix of exotic decorations from Bali and various other indigenous cultures greets you as you step indoors, giving Red Garden Resort a uniquely tropical, southern style, at once subdued yet bold. The bathrooms exhibit clay bottles of shampoo and shower gel, and volcanic rock flooring, the varied heights of the design elements echoing the multi-level composition of the gardens outside. Lying on the white bedding of the large wooden bed late at night, you hear the faint lapping of waves against the seashore. The subtle yellow lighting, the fresh cut flowers and the scent of sandalwood in the air are so charming that you feel loathe to let sleep overtake you.Your hostess Amy, in her long, flowing skirt, is the beautiful caretaker of this elegant garden. Passionate and strong, Amy was born and raised in Kenting. Giving up her dream of being a professional soccer player, her athletic vigor and perseverance allowed her to go from serving in a hotel restaurant to become an apprentice at another establishment opened by the hotel chef where she learned to cook and to speak English. She later took charge of her own restaurant, at which time she met her true love, an Englishman named Neil. Red Garden Resort is the fruit of their labor, bearing witness to their good fortune and happiness.Blooming in the hearts of travelersOriginally employed in the field of shipbuilding design, Neil found himself making frequent trips to Taiwan. An avid surfer, he would escape to the beaches of Kenting nearly every week. It was on one of those trips that he met Amy, who was working in a restaurant he patronized. Their exotic foreign romance culminated in Neil giving up his career to stay in Taiwan and start a family with Amy. At that time, Amy was growing increasingly weary of her hectic restaurant job, and began to imagine the contentment of a leisurely lifestyle in a garden paradise. In order to fulfill his wife’s dreams, Neil once again took up his design profession. He drew up all the designs and oversaw the construction work himself. The details of Red Garden Resort took shape in each meticulously drawn blueprint, as if with each stroke of his pen, Neil was bringing his commitment to Amy to life, each gorgeous flower nurtured with his love for her. So long as they hold hands, the flowers in their garden will bloom eternally in brilliant red. When you stay at Red Garden Resort, you feel like you’ve arrived at your own private villa. The atmosphere gives travelers the warm sensation of returning home for the holidays. As you enjoy a delicious breakfast under the garden trellis, the sea breeze caresses your skin and the sound of ocean waves rolls in the distance. Sometimes, you might find yourself lounging in a garden chair with a good book, at others strolling the beach in the sunshine. Passing your days in such cordial comfort, you feel utterly free. For over ten years, it is precisely this secret that Red Garden Resort has been planting in the hearts of travelers.

Name: Redgarden Resort
Mandarin Name: 花園紅了民宿
Description: Pingtung|Red Garden ResortA blooming secret garden in the south of TaiwanYou pass through Kenting’s bustling main street and head toward Sail Rock.
