DescriptionAs you enter the main hall of Xin Yuan House, you’ll notice two elegantly-shaped inscribed boards next to the door, bearing the words “I only care about you, no matter where you’re from” and “I hope my effort can win your heart.” This is the beauty of Xin Yuan House. We provide each castle with its own romantic English-style breakfast in the morning and mild-strength cocktails in the evening. Rooms come with automatic coffee machines and organic flower tea. Don’t forget to bring your camera and leave behind beautiful memories. We hope you enjoy a wonderful atmosphere from the moment you enter Xin Yuan House. Every guest is instantly impressed the moment he or she enters the room – it’s a castle for princes and princesses, straight out of a fairy tale. In 2000, we were honored as the Most Beautiful Garden Bed and Breakfast by Yilan County. The garden is full of a variety of flowers, attracting a number of newlyweds to take wedding photographs here. We’ve also been the setting for several television shows as well as being interviewed by Japanese TV and thereby earning the reputation of having “more authentic style than England itself.” People often ask, “What’s the best part of being a bed and breakfast owner?” When friends wave goodbye and say, “When I have time, I’m definitely coming back!” Xin Yuan House is a rest stop embracing happiness, leaving guests with a feeling of warmth and happiness as they depart and knowing the wonder of this place will always be a part of their memories.

NameCat Sky Country B&B
Mandarin Name貓天空鄉村民宿
DescriptionYilan|Cat Sky HouseFollow the cat to a playful old house in the countrysideA comfortable autumn breeze blows through Yilan, as the Annong River reflects the dazzling sunlight. Strolling along a country lane between farmers’ fields as chickens cluck and dogs bark, you somehow feel like closing your eyes when suddenly your gaze is caught by a building colored red and orange: Cat Sky House, the brightest traditional courtyard home on the bank of the Annong River, sits waiting between rice paddies for travelers to visit.Rich and delightful countryside courtyard homeWalking into the courtyard at Cat Sky House, everything is brightly colored, with cute, playfully arranged scenes all around. The courtyard preserves the traditional cement ground covering, as grass grows in cracks that opened up in the cement many years before. Several cats, stretching out beneath a red sun parasol, continue rolling around. Your host Lisa walks toward you with a smile. After retirement, she and her husband, Paul bought this house, originally in ruins, for the street cats that they had adopted. They have since remodeled it into a cute courtyard house full of cats. The moment you enter the house, you are greeted by a warm aroma - you discover that it’s the smell of the home-baked welcome cookies being prepared by Miss Tian, the housekeeper. In the kitchen, the same warm color theme you have seen elsewhere at Cat Sky House continues, and the old wood-burning hearth remains as well. Watching Miss Tian’s busy movements, you feel a sense of returning to your family home in the countryside. And why have they chosen Yilan as the place to pursue life after retirement? Originally living in Taipei, Lisa says with a laugh, “We do it all for these little animals!” Following the growth and independence of her children, Lisa gradually started to adopt cats. First one, then another, then a third… the more cat adoption information she saw, the more she took in, and before she knew it she had seven or eight cats living in her home! A while later, after going on a trip with several friends, they suddenly became inspired to buy a house in Yilan where they could retire to one day, to live together and take care of one another. This was the birth of Cat Sky House. As Lisa says with a laugh, “You have to have your own life!” Retirement is not the finale, it is the start of a new life.Peaceful, easy times in the countryCat Sky House only entertains a single group of guests at any given time, so you can relax completely and enjoy the company of your friends in your own exclusive building. This country-style home filled with miscellaneous goods will set you completely at ease. Stepping into the bedroom, you take in the colorful decor on the roof beams, as well as the cute figurines lying on the bed and in front of the windows. The pristine white sheets are soft and welcoming, inviting you to fall asleep to the singing sounds of insects.Walking outdoors, Paul excitedly shows you the sweet potato leaves he just picked in order to give traveling guests the most natural, flavorful breakfast possible the following morning. At this time, however, a sumptuous afternoon tea has been prepared to welcome you, and it is up to you whether you enjoy it outdoors or inside. Sitting in a corner of the courtyard, admiring the expansive country fields and the soothing breeze, you enjoy passionfruit jam on handmade cookies with hibiscus wax gourd tea. Chickens cluck as they walk around the courtyard in a scene that seems right out of a peaceful, pastoral painting.A sumptuous countryside breakfastYou wake at the break of dawn to the sound of clucking chickens, barking dogs and the aromatic breakfast that awaits you. Walking to the breakfast table, you’ll certainly be shocked at first sight of the table full of sumptuous foods. You may even think you’ve overslept and your hosts have skipped right to preparing lunch! Besides Paul’s own sweet potato leaves and corn, there is a host of other seasonal vegetables. Delicious egg flatbreads sprinkled with cilantro delight the taste buds. Lisa proudly states, “Our egg flatbreads are made with indica rice milk, making them softer, and they’re really hard to come by!” At that moment, the housekeeper delivers a freshly baked pizza to the table! The melted cheese invites you to eat just one more slice. After you are full, Lisa will provide you with all the info you need about local sights to see.Cat Sky House maintains the old-school retro lifestyle and pastoral tranquility of an old courtyard home in the countryside. In such a place, time simply slows down. With Lisa’s humor and Paul’s warmth, you’ll certainly see how genuine the interaction between people can be. When you arrive at Cat Sky House, you’ll see just how fun the countryside can be. In this old courtyard home, you can even follow the cats’ lead, to gaze upon a new slice of sky.

Name: Cat Sky Country B&B
Mandarin Name: 貓天空鄉村民宿
Description: Yilan|Cat Sky HouseFollow the cat to a playful old house in the countrysideA comfortable autumn breeze blows through Yilan, as the Annong River reflects the dazzling sunlight.

Mandarin Name農村老爺民宿
Description南投|Jiji Village B&BA traditional courtyard farmhouse where time temporarily stands stillAs you pass over the Jilu Bridge, cross farmers’ fields, and survey the rolling hills, the distracting thoughts in your mind all dissipate. In a moment, you seem to transcend space and time, returning to olden days where you encounter a traditional courtyard farmhouse, majestic in its old age and exuding the genuine ambiance of 1950s Taiwan. You feel as though you’ve walked into the type of picturesque pastoral landscape described in ancient Chinese poetry. Jiji Village B&B possesses a sunny verdancy, the courtyard of a mountain getaway, and host Mr. Liu’s love of the land.Deeply felt memories of childhoodYou and your friends disembark and put both feet on the soft, grassy ground as sunlight shines through lattice covered with loofah gourd vines. You pass through the wooden front doors surrounded by spring couplets, and admire the red brick walls which bear the traces of passing time. “Come right in and have a seat!” You hear Mr. Liu’s friendly welcome as a small, yellow dog named Cachito greets you. The name Cachito originates from a Spanish folktale, and Mr. Liu regards Cachito as a gift from heaven. This spacious, modern three-building courtyard is full of layers. The sunlight and air from the front vestibule and rear courtyard are able to penetrate inside through large, wooden-framed windows, imprinting the window screens with numerous beautiful silhouettes. The huge space is divided by wooden panels and doors, and to both sides, the refreshing greenery of potted plants is seen along the hinoki promenades of the left and right buildings. The entire space encourages you to slow your pace and wander leisurely around, taking in the scenery.A true reflection of the 1950sFrom the roof beams inside to the steps in the courtyard, from the low stone walls to the courtyard well, entering this house of wood and stone is like stepping into the childhood memories of Mr. and Mrs. Liu. According to Mr. Liu, “Wood and stone are two key elements here at Jiji Village B&B, because the veins in the stone and the grain of the wood are respectively identical inside and outside. So, too, should be the mind of man and woman.” Mr. Liu hopes that all travelers who visit here can perceive the sincerity which this building emits. Pushing open the rosewood screen doors and heading to the second-floor rooms, the floorboards creaking underfoot are reminiscent of childhood days chasing siblings up and down the halls and stairs. Jiji Village offers three guest rooms in old fashioned styles. The walls of the Taiwan Fir Tree Country-Style Room are constructed from Chinese fir, and the woody aroma permeates the room. The Japanese Tatami Room is exceedingly comfortable. Yet the most romantic of all is the Classic Chinese Canopy Bed Room. Mr. Liu searched far and wide to find this traditional bed. The room is also furnished with an ornately carved dresser, embroidered red pillows, and an antique gramophone phonograph player, creating a romantic dreamland for you and your lover.A traditional farmhouse infused with modernityBeneath a single yellow light bulb, Mr. and Mrs. Liu prepare dinner beside the traditional wood burning kitchen hearth. Mr. Liu cheerfully carries out plate after plate of authentic vegetable and meat dishes; juicy bamboo shoot with meat, organic loofah gourd fresh from the garden, braised bean and pork, and healthy burdock consommé, all made with love. After the meal, you chat over the tea table off to one side of the dining room, admiring the traditional Taiwanese tea spread and delicate ceramic teaware. Mr. Liu also has a traditional Japanese tea spread with tatami seating. Hollows in the floor allow you to extend your legs comfortably as the moon shines through the windows and reflects off the tea in your cup. You walk out into the courtyard to appreciate the tranquil evening and the cool, countryside air. The summer sun, just like a farmer, rises early, illuminating the bright green lawn in the courtyard. Waking to the shadows dancing in the passion fruit orchard outside your window, you walk spritely downstairs to find that Mrs. Liu has prepared a sumptuous breakfast of refreshing salad and rice milk, reminding you of the happiness to be found in simple things. After retiring from the air force, Mr. Liu felt homesick and so decided to return to his childhood home in Nantou and start a guesthouse business. He could not have anticipated that he would encounter the devastating Jiji earthquake which rocked Taiwan on the 21st of September, 1999. That traumatic event did not dishearten Mr. Liu, instead inspiring him to begin the activity of “Orally Recounting History” where he did relief work to aid those affected by the disaster. He and Mrs. Liu set up a vendor’s stall selling Job’s tear milk on the street, using their love of their homeland to get back on their feet. First, they opened a restaurant based on all of the old, traditional recipes they could find by interviewing the local elders, inviting travelers to taste the local flavors of Jiji. Yet they never forgot their original intention to open a guesthouse. Thus, after opening their restaurant and winery, they devoted themselves wholeheartedly to the operation of their guesthouse, a road that they have walked together, supporting one another all the way, using past frustrations to nurture their aspirations. They based their blueprints upon childhood memories, inviting travelers into their traditional courtyard farmhouse, to enjoy tranquility, happiness, and contentment.

DescriptionYilan|Meishiou B&B A Fairytale-Like Carpenter’s HouseWhite clouds drift through the clear, blue Yilan skies as you sing a song and stroll along the country lanes. Suddenly, you hear the energetic barking of a little dog. A little black and white Chihuahua stares at you with its sparkling big eyes. Behind it, a three-level building painted in off-white and brown comes into view. Welcome to Meishiou B&B!Countryside memoirs of a happy encounter with woodPushing open the low, wooden gate, you enter a garden filled with lush and vibrant flowers and plants. Red dragonflies accompany you down the crushed stone pathway right up to the front door. On the veranda, you find a sturdy wooden shoe cabinet above which a blackboard has been colorfully decorated with the words “Meishiou B&B: lodging, woodworking, playful life.” You open the door to a room full of richly colored wooden furniture, giving the interior the feeling of a small forest. Lifting your head, you see a beautiful scene of blue sky and green trees out the window, and you feel as if you’ve entered the home of a fairytale elf! This fairytale-like home and all the beautiful furniture within is a product of the hard work of your hosts. The doghouse in the entrance is your hostess Meishiou’s first woodworking project, to create a warm little corner for her beloved dog, Bogi. She has since transformed herself into a stylish female carpenter! She dragged Piety, who loves DIY projects, into her plan, to become her number-one helper. Piety’s passion for carpentry, however, originates from his inherent desire to get his hands on everything around him. He once even helped SGS to do inspection work! Eventually, they built a tiny woodworking shop behind their house, helping to establish their dream home. A cozy, warm woodworking shop, a miniature tri-color fairytaleGoing up stairs, you see Meishiou’s creativity in the natural tri-color decor: red, blue, and green. Each room seems to embody its own miniature fairytale. The first page of the tale tells the story of a sunflower growing up in a safflower garden. With multi-colored pillows and tender-colored walls, the “Red Warmth Room” is a little paradise just for you and your furry friend, set up to give you the most delightful experience before settling in for bed.The second page of the tale tells of an elf’s fantasy adventure in the green forest. The “Green Forest Room” is the only four-person room at Meishiou B&B, serving as the perfect secret base for you and your friends to share a vacation together. A red dinosaur dangling from a floating balloon drifts up near the ceiling, the clock on his belly tick-tocking away as if to suggest that this is the moment for a joyous adventure to begin! On the third floor, you open the third page of the tale, where a mermaid princess shares her story about the world beneath the sea. The “Blue Waters Room” has an elevated wooden floor with a row of tall blue waves for bed headboards. This room has the only bathtub, and it’s pink, like a romantic blessing from the mermaid princess.A fairytale home converging with real lifeIn the morning, you walk out onto the balcony, take a deep breath of that fresh, clean Yilan air, and catch a whiff of a delicious breakfast cooking! Soy milk, a fresh fruit and vegetable salad, mashed potato balls, soft-boiled eggs, and perfectly toasted bread combine for a simple yet perfectly energizing breakfast. If you’re intrigued by Meishiou and Piety’s woodworking life, you can book a seat in Friday’s woodworking course for a chance to hammer around with Meishiou in the workshop! Different than your standard carpentry course, Meishiou enjoys using love to create woodcrafts with her guests. Piety humorously refers to their workshop as their “delivery room” where you can experience with your own hands the satisfaction of creating things from wood. The warm feeling inside the house is just like the interaction between Meishiou and Piety – comfortable and cozy. When they met each other, one had just completed a job, while the other had fallen in love with hiking as a way of coping with a break up. They began hiking, fishing, and bicycle-riding together - they’ve even conquered half of the hundred highest peaks in Taiwan. Having an unspoken understanding of one another, they began to construct their guesthouse together. They’ve been through a lot in their countryside life; even though Piety recently fell seriously ill, the illness was unable to defeat them as they faced it with unyielding optimism. This fairytale-like home is not simply a physical building. Even more so, Meishiou B&B is a product of the charisma of its hosts.
