The moment you set foot in Shire Guesthouse, you are greeted by genial sunlight spilling across a soft carpet through large French windows with warm wooden furniture everywhere you look. The design of Shire Guesthouse has a simple beauty which is not showy. The red brick flooring throughout the ground level makes for a cozy living room, extending under the dining table and into the kitchen. The pastiche stone walls stealthily absorb the humidity of the Yilan air, making for ideal temperatures all year round. Even staying indoors, it is easy to find a spot to sit or lounge or flip through a book and enjoy a leisurely time.Ivan, who began learning landscape design when in university, has unique tastes and specialties. He worked with many important construction companies after graduation. The Luodong Sports Park is one of his works of which he is particularly fond. Later on, he fell in love with Ivy, after which time they worked together to realize their aspirations to build a guesthouse. Before retreating into their Shire lifestyle, Ivy who was born in Yilan was working in Taipei as a clothing assistant. Though the bustling city has its charms, Ivy longed to return to her familiar hometown. As such, when Ivan proposed returning to Yilan to open a guesthouse, Ivy threw herself into the project without hesitation in order to create a beautiful life with her lover. Walking into the shower to wash away your fatigue, the multi-colored porcelain wall tiles add a splash of excitement to life. Continuing the solid-wood theme of the Shire, the bedroom’s wooden pillars were handpicked by Ivan himself. The unpreserved Taiwanese cypress shows the vestiges of time, like the process of the beautification of life itself. In the quiet of the evening, you are accompanied by the Beatles singing “A Hard Day’s Night” as you recline on the retro leather sofa reading a book until the vinyl record clock on the wall points to 11 o’clock. Even nighttime at the Shire is full of vitality. If you are lucky enough, you may have the pleasure of engaging in deep conversation with Ivan and Ivy, which may be the start of a secret adult meeting. Make an appointment on a whim, chatting happily over some drinks from their private red wine collection - tonight you feel just as content as if meeting with intimate friends for the first time in ages. The courage to face your ideal lifeAs the first rays of sunlight spill into the room, you feel prepared to meet a new day.
