Boss, the inn’s dog, circles your legs with a frisbee in his mouth, guiding you across the red-tile floor and by the solid wood table, after which you step into the sun-soaked backyard encircled by the tide. Boss runs excitedly across the lawn chasing the frisbee, you and he soaking in the ocean breeze as you chase each other around. In the sweltering afternoon, as the tide gradually rises, seawater covering the rocky seashore, Boss lazes around, too. As you sit in wooden chairs facing the ocean and listen to the burbling tide, you feel your own insignificance in the face of nature’s majesty. You also sense how fortunate you are; though you own nothing at all, at the same time, you have it all.Each room at Summerya has its own name, and each name reveals a little secret about this place. The Pure Sea Breeze room is located on the second floor and has ceilings just as lofty as the ocean winds. From the attached outdoor balcony, you have a clear view of the seaweed draped over the seaside rocks revealed by the receding tide, and the azure ocean waters at high tide. The Serene Starry Skies room also has a spacious balcony from which you might as well greet the evening stars, inviting you outside to take a stroll and enjoy the sparkling night sky. The Azure Seas room has an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean. The beautiful ocean vista will keep you captivated all night until the first rays of the new day sun appear over the horizon. The following morning, follow your nose to the breakfast table where two slices of perfectly toasted bread with ham and eggs, a crispy salad with rich dressing, and a fragrant cup of coffee are waiting to wake up your belly. The simple yet rich flavors provide the perfect start to the day.Heartfelt regard for this piece of land, this stretch of seaRecalling the first time she saw the original piece of land where Summerya House now stands, extroverted and lively hostess Summer makes a silly face and exclaims, “It was practically in ruins!” Summer’s hometown is in the Lugu township of Nantou county. Having grown up in the mountain forests, Summer had a kind of inexpressible yearning for island life. At 17, she had saved up enough money from her part-time jobs to take a trip to Penghu, and it was that visit which left an indelible impression on her. From then on, she would seize any chance she got to go relax on Penghu island. After starting to date host Michael, Summer dragged him over to visit her beloved island. Little did she know that for Michael, Penghu would also be love at first sight! The moment he was able to wrap up the business at hand, he unhesitatingly decided to move to Penghu, the place that both he and Summer were longing for, to start a new life together and construct the beautiful Summerya House.After operating Summerya House for exactly ten years, another place that they both really liked came up for sale, the place where Oasis Hotel now sits. When asked why they wanted to create Oasis Hotel, Michael gave a mysterious answer, “Operating guesthouses is a path of no return; once you’ve begun, you end up investing all of your resources.” Perhaps it is precisely their sincere love of this land, their high self-demands, and the pull of destiny that conspired to establish them in the life that they now find themselves.Their backs to the azure ocean as they share with us their ideas about operating guesthouses, Summer and Michael laugh in unison when they get to the happy moments and listen attentively to each other when discussing the times things didn’t go as intended. Their seemingly very different personalities tacitly complement one another on account of their mutual love.
