Due to long-term improper gaits of modern people, the knee-joint damages have been accumulated since youth. There are about 20% elders in the globe suffering from long-term Knee Osteoarthritis whose health and life quality is severely impacted. To mitigate knee-joint abrasion and degeneration, proper gaits are required to mitigate hemi-abrasion and bending angle of knee joints. The major countermeasures are maintenance of appropriate activity level and weight control. SaFePlay (Smart Footwear Platform) technology collects the pressure values of pelma and bottom of walking stick from initial stage patients suffering from knee pain during stepping through smart shoe-pad and smart stick. Meanwhile, various statistics of the inclination, acceleration, and foot acceleration of feet and stick are recorded. Combining the subjectively feedback of pain feelings from testees, the gait models of users are established to identify the corresponding gaits of painful and painless knee states. System can immediately give warning to the users when they are walking in incorrect gaits and furtherly advise them on how to correct their gaits so as to mitigate knee damages.
